the favour bank
I find paying for goods and services using
e-money is such a rigid and formal process.
Will we see other systems of trade emerge
as e-money replaces cash? I decided to look
at de-centralised, unmonitored methods of
trading services, which resulted in an
experiment called the favour bank.
The favour bank works on a currency
of favours. If you need a favour you can
take a contact from the bank as long as
you replace it with a card containing your
own name, contact details and expertise/
interests. It aims to encourage more
collaboration between people from various
disciplines within the RCA.
To launch the experiment and get favours
into the bank, I made waffles and sold
them for favours one pleasant afternoon.
This generated a total of 41 favours for
future interactions.
